Tooting Bec Lido opening for the summer, wheel-throwing lessons for beginners, a charity plant sale, 30% off food offer, a Fix & Mend event, 10% off steam cleaning, and much more!
SAVE THE DATE for a Charity Plant Sale! Local resident & 5-time Chelsea Flower Show award-winner Anthony de Grey is once more opening up his beautiful garden for a charity plant sale at his home at 54 Abbotswood Road, SW16 1AW (by Tooting Common, just off Bedford Hill) on Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th May, 9am-5pm each day!
Liven up your garden with some unusual, interesting & useful plants all in aid of a brilliant cause!
Money raised will go towards Brain Research UK, a charity close to Anthony’s heart as it helps fund research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Anthony lived through the deterioration of his father through MND until his early death at the age of 61 and his overriding wish is that no-one should have to suffer as his father did, nor witness his pain as he did.
Anthony has raised an amazing £38,453 so far with his charity plant sales, and we wish him the very best of luck for this year!
Tooting Common Bioblitz this Sunday 26 April, 10am-1pm, at The Woodfield Pavilion – all welcome (and it's free)!
The event, in collaboration with The City Nature Challenge 2026 and The Natural History Museum, aims to create a snapshot of the variety of life found on Tooting Common.
Wildlife experts and the wider public work together, within a set amount of time, to find and identify in the area as many species of plants, animals and fungi as possible.
The event is an informal and fun way for young people and other members of the public to learn alongside experts, and share and develop their enthusiasm for nature.
Volunteers are invited to help at this event, on either:
• volunteering at the Woodfield Pavilion or around the Common, setting up and running stalls supporting children and adults to identify local nature
• helping at the Woodfield Pavilion selling tea and coffee and other various jobs where needed
• providing IT support to help children and adults to download and use the iNaturalist.org app which will be used to record wildlife
If you'd like to volunteer, please WhatsApp David Norman (the organiser) on 07595 765577.
The next Fix and Mend event will be taking place on Saturday 2nd May at St Mary's Church on Balham High Road!
Do you have broken electrical or electronic items that you don’t want to throw away? Or sewing and mending that needs doing and you’d like a bit of advice? If so, join Transition Town Tooting at their next fix and mend session on Saturday, 2nd May from 1pm - 4pm (no new fixes after 3:30pm).
There is no pre-booking and what they can fix will depend on the number of fixers and their area of skill. They’re all volunteers who will help you learn to fix, not simply a free repair service. They can’t guarantee to fix anything but can look at almost anything you can carry! (except microwave ovens for safety reasons).
For more info, visit Transition Town Tooting
Do bring your chargers for phones and laptops etc. You take responsibility for your own gadget and data, so please back it up to be safe.
